Wireless Number Portability Now Available in Canada
As I mentioned in an earlier post, as of March 14, 2007, wireless service providers will make Wireless Number Portability (WNP) available to their customers. This means that customers will be able to switch to any service provider (wireline or wireless) and keep their phone number. Deployment of WNP will include wireless-to-wireless, wireless-to-wireline and wireline-to-wireless porting scenarios. For more information on how to switch phone companies while keeping your number, contact your service provider or go to wirelessnumberportability.ca. I called Rogers today to ask if I could switch a land line to my cell phone and they told me that the number didn’t qualify, so make sure to talk to your provider before making any assumptions.
