Telecommuting could help fight climate change, according to a new report.

It’s something that might bring joy to many who fight their way to work every day. According to a new report, telecommuting – working from home via your computer – can be a factor in helping to combat climate change.

The report was sponsored by BT Conferencing and Danish company Giritech, and backed by the Trades Union Council, the Confederation of British Industry, as well as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. It concluded, perhaps unsurprisingly, that working from home could significantly reduce road traffic. But it also pointed out that for real green advantages to accrue, we’ll have to change the way we use technology.

A $3-million (U.S.) plan to blanket Lompoc, Calif., with a wireless Internet system promised a quantum leap for economic development: The remote community hit hard by cutbacks at nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base would join the 21st century with cheap and plentiful high-speed access.

With a solid understanding of health information issues and employment of strong project management practices, the incumbent will lead or participate on project teams relating to the completion of special studies commissioned by stakeholders and/or CIHI. The incumbent will provide methodological and analytic leadership on assigned studies. The studies are intended to provide the public, policy-makers, health authorities, caregivers, and researchers with reliable and comparable data on health and health care at the federal, provincial/territorial and regional levels.
