Geoff Green – Extreme Teleworker

September 21st, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in General

A longtime friend and client Geoff Green (www.geoffgreen.ca) of www.studentsonice.com recently appeared in several new Microsoft ads alongside actress Eva Longoria and her husband NBA player Tony Parker, singer and producer Pharrell Williams, green architect Edouard Francois and others who make appearances, all proclaiming “I’m a PC.”

For those of you unfamiliar with Students On Ice, they are an award-winning organization (founded by Geoff) offering unique learning expeditions to the Antarctic and the Arctic. Geoff’s mandate is to provide students from around the world with inspiring educational opportunities at the ends of our earth, and in doing so, help them foster a new understanding and respect for the planet.

In the Microsoft ads Geoff is seen at a Polar location where he and his student expeditioners regularly send text, pictures and video which all end up posted on the Students On Ice website making Geoff in my opinion an extreme teleworker.

The ads can be watched on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj5UyZKo2iE and

Telework is not for everyone. It’s solitary; coworkers may be jealous; the boss may be suspicious, and it’s much easier to find distractions (the upside: Your house may get clean as you vacuum to avoid work). Take this advice to remain disciplined, industrious, and sane.

Adam@Home – Worst Home Office Jokes Ever

I’ve added a RSS feed in the far right-hand column to the very funny comic strip Adam@Home.

Adam Newman is a stay-at-home dad. He is self-employed, running “Adam Newman Enterprises” from his home computer. A caffeine addict, he spends his days at his computer, occasionally slacking or using his baby son Nick as an office assistant. He dreads summertime when his older children will be home tearing up the house and begging him to take them out. When not at home, he’s usually at his favorite coffee shop, typing away at his laptop.

Gas prices shot north of $4 a gallon (more than $6 a gallon in Canada) recently, though there are some indications that a drawback in gasoline prices is likely to occur in the fairly near future. However, while the short term forecasts indicate that gas prices will likely abate some before the end of 2008, there is a growing consensus that any relief is likely to be short-lived … and that gas prices could climb dramatically over the next few years from already painful levels to ones that will cause profound disruptions to the economy.
